Diane Chappalley | Artist in Residence with NG Creative Residency

Over the Autumn, artist Diane Chappalley undertook a two-week residency at the NG Art Creative Residency in Provence.

‘Diane Chappalley has said that making work in this part of the world rich in art history and living in an iconic landscape that I knew so well from looking at paintings was truly inspiring. The unique nature and light of the region has brought many modernist painters to the area and the NG Art Creative Residency pursues and contributes to its art legacy by supporting and welcoming international artists.’

The NG Art Creative Residency is based in the South of France and was founded by long-standing gallerist, curator, entrepreneur, director and visionary Nicky Ginsberg. The residency offers a place of respite, nourishment and enlightenment for artists, writers, poets, musicians, performers, filmmakers, photographers, academic scholars, and other creatives who seek to enrich their process.

The residency Invites creatives to embark on imaginative endeavours, and immerse themselves in an environment of reflection and creative freedom – in the studio and en plein air.

Diane Chappalley, was born in Switzerland and graduated from her MA in 2017 from the Slade School of Art. She now lives and works in London and is a painter whose work depicts imagined fantasies. The sceneries in her work are rooted in reality and reflect her personal history. Her works are a translation of our sensory experiences and act as a portal into suspended momentums of the minutiae creating a visual response in which remove the viewer from the everyday monotony.

Diane Chappalley has held exhibitions internationally in the UK, Switzerland and Hong Kong. In 2017 she was awarded the Dean’s list. Her work has been selected for many prestigious prizes including FBA Futures, Mall Gallery, London, The Marmite Painting Prize, Block 336, London and Highlanes Gallery, Ireland. In 2017, she completed a residency at the Academy of Visual Art, HKBU in Hong Kong and more recently, she received the Alice Bailly Award, Switzerland. Diane’s work is held in private collections internationally and is held in public collections including HSBC Art Collection, London, UK and Contemporary Art Collection CHUV, Switzerland.

In February 2020 Informality will host a solo exhibition by Diane.
