Canadian-born artist, Kapwani Kiwanga whose work, Subduction Study #2, 2015 appears In Informality's exhibition, Women In Photography - Lay of the Land 2020, has been awarded the 2020 Prix Marcel Duchamp Award.

Kapwani Kiwanga has won the prestigious award which is France's top art prize, with an award of $41,000. The prize is awarded by the association for the International Dissemination of French Art. The artist has won the prize with her work "Flowers For Africa" (2013-ongoing).

"Flowers For Africa" is a project that started in Senegal when the artist was living there in 2013 and features 54 works, one for each country in Africa. Kapwani re-creates particular floral arrangements which appear during different various diplomatic events associated with freedom ceremonies throughout the continent.
